I came across a post on my Facebook timeline this week and a friend of mine was trying different ways of tricking herself into drinking more water. I’ve always enjoyed drinking water so it’s new to me to find out that people don’t actually enjoy it themselves. Though this might seem weird to me, everyone is different – so I left a comment with a fun new suggestion she hadn’t tried yet. Outside of that, I can think of a few ways to trick/motivate yourself into drinking more water throughout the day – check it out and let me know what you think!
1. Use Frozen Fruit
When the weather is hot out like it is this summer, it’s nice to drink something super cold to quench your thirst. Adding some frozen fruit of your choice (I would recommend frozen berries!) can not only flavour your water but keeps it cold and replaces ice cubes! Then when you’re done your water, you get a little bit of a healthy snack at the end too ;). This is a great alternative for those who don’t like the tart flavour of lemon and lime.
2. Download An App
There are many apps out there that help you track your daily water intake. Find one that makes you excited and use it! If you’re anything like me, when you download something new you pretty much want to make immediate use out of it… simply type in “Water Tracker” in your App Store and pick one that works best for you. Aim for one that you can set reminders so it pops up to remind you to drink your water!
3. Use Rubber Bands
I know this sounds a little bit weird, but it’s useful. The goal is to drink 8 cups of water per day (although I would argue more is always better), get a reusable water bottle, either 500mL or higher, and put 4 rubber bands at the bottom of the bottle. Every time you finish one bottle of water, slide a rubber band to the top. By lunch, you should have half the rubber bands at the top already – bonus points if you drink more water than you’re supposed to!
4. Opt For Herbal Tea
At night if you’re used to drinking pop or soda, make the switch to herbal tea! During the colder periods throughout the year you can drink it hot – but if you have a glass juice pitcher in the summer, brew a massive batch (with a few tea bags) and put it in the fridge! Iced tea is way healthier for you than pop (given that you made it yourself with no sugar) and it will help sneak in more water! If you want, use some of the iced herbal tea and put it in an ice cube tray so that when you pop some into your iced tea, it doesn’t water down the flavour.
5. Buy A New Bottle
Again, this might just be a Sarah thing, but if I buy a new water bottle, it makes me REALLY excited to use it lol. So, if you want some extra motivation to drink that water, buy a water bottle that you LOVE and take it with you everywhere you go. Trust me – it will work.
